Nigerians Living In The UK Tops The List Of Big Spenders, With An Average Transaction Of £1,648

Woo...if this report is anything to go by then Nigerians in the UK are truly living the dream...you know, like "living on top of the world".
According to a London SOURCE
Nigeria's oil industry is boosting the pockets of an affluent elite who are increasingly coming to London to spend that cash. In February last year, sales to Nigerians were up 50 per cent in London shops on a year earlier, while overall in 2011 Selfridges says their spending was up by over a quarter and that Nigerians have been among its top 10 overseas shoppers for the past five years.

On their shopping lists: Suits and formalwear but also jewellery, cosmetics and childrenswear.
Labels include Paul Smith, Gucci, Prada, Chanel and Rolex while Vertu phones are a popular purchase. Although they trust established brands, they are also happy to buy across the price spectrum - hence Debenhams started putting signs up in Hausa, the language spoken by 45 million West Africans.

Woman read Bible for more than an hour to attacker who had just slashed her throat

SHELBY, NC –  A North Carolina woman read the Bible for more than an hour to a man who had slashed her throat, while he held a knife to her neck.
Lindsay Wood, 32, and her 15-year-old son had returned to their Shelby, N.C., home after attending church Wednesday night when the man attacked Wood as her son collected a trash can from outside, the Shelby Star reported.
For more than an hour, her son hid outside while Wood read Scriptures to the attacker and told him about her church, before he apologized and fled, WCNC-TV, reported.
"She even invited him to her church," a police spokesman said. "He kept saying he was sorry, and then walked away."
The woman was rushed to the hospital and required 25 staples in a wound to her neck.
Wood's mother Jane Hamrick said of her daughter, "She doesn't judge people. She doesn't criticize people. She's a unique person."
Hamrick added, "She was doing what her faith led her to do. This is a testimony to the person she is and the faith that she has."
Wood is recovering after undergoing surgery, while police are still hunting the attacker.

FG, Firm Seal N414bn Deal on Biomass Plant

Minister of Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga

The Federal Government yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an indigenous bio-fuel producer, Global Biofuels Limited, for the construction of 15 integrated bio-fuel plants estimated to gulp about N414 billion to boost industrial development in the country.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, said the project had been subjected to stringent feasibility and market studies, adding that the ministry would partner other focal ministries and parastatals of the federal and state governments to ensure the successful execution of the project.

He said the project is expected to create 120,000 direct and 750,000 indirect jobs across the value chain in addition to linking 15 states of the federation to cheap bio-fuel generated electricity at the rate of 30 megawatts per state.

Aganga signed on behalf of the Federal Government, while the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Global Biofuels Limited, Dr. Felix Obada, signed on behalf of his company.

He noted that the project was the culmination of several years of hard work and intensive research between the company and its collaborators in research institutes in Nigeria, China, Brazil and India, adding that when completed, the project would positively impact the nation’s economy and attract more Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) into the country.

EX-WARLORD WARNS OF SOUTH NIGERIA BACKLASH AT BOKO HARAM

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria (Reuters) - Southern Nigerians could take up arms to fight northern Boko Haram Islamists, and are holding back only out of respect for the president, a former militant leader from the oil-rich Niger Delta said on Monday.

Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, a Muslim who led a rebellion in the delta until a peace deal with the government in 2004, said bomb attacks by Boko Haram could provoke retaliation by mostly Christian southerners, including those living in the delta.

President Goodluck Jonathan has already declared a state of emergency in parts of the north which Boko Haram targeted in Christmas Day bomb attacks, including one against a church near Abuja that killed 37 people.

The attacks, and their spread from the north into other parts of the country, have raised the prospect of sectarian and regional violence escalating in a country about evenly divided between mainly southern Christians and mainly northern Muslims.

UCB Word For Today - Pray Every Day

Pray Every Day

Devote yourselves to prayer... Colossians 4:2
Each night a little girl threw one of her shoes under the bed before going to sleep. When her mum asked why, she replied, 'My Sunday school teacher said if I have to get down by my bed in the morning and look for my shoe, it'll remind me to say my prayers while I'm there.' If it helps, throw your shoe under the bed! Prayer is the life force that sustains us spiritually. David wrote: 'As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you...My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?' (Psalm 42:1-2 NIV). In his book, The Power and Blessing, Pastor Jack Hayford writes: 'I had gone on vacation, and I needed it! It was delightful to get to the beach. But about the fourth day... I found I was feeling empty inside. Then it occurred to me that for four days I hadn't read a word of Scripture, prayed a prayer or sung a song of praise. It was just kind of 'Let's get away from it all.' We were so involved with church that we didn't want to do anything 'godly' for a while. But suddenly I was called back by the inner hollowness I felt. Through that experience I learned that I can't recover at a physical or emotional level, if I neglect the spiritual level.' The Bible says: 'Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving.' Only when you've spent time in God's presence and drawn strength from Him, will you be equal to the challenges you face on any given day.
